Membership Requirements and Information
Requirements
The Krewe of Europa has different levels of membership available. As our name states, we are a krewe that celebrates ancestry from the 44 Western and Eastern European Countries. Our open membership recruitment starts May 1st.. If selected, the new membership starts the following Jan 1st for 12 calendar months. Those submitting applications in May through early July will be allowed to attend events in November and December of that year, thus adding two additional months to your membership. All members must be 21 years old or older. Any parades deemed a children's parade, member is allowed two under 18 guest.
Diamond Passport Membership:
Our Diamond Passport membership is available to everyone that meets our conditions for acceptance in the krewe vetting process. Generally these memberships are for those living local to Florida, however not a requirement. This is a full access membership allowing access to all krewe events.
- Full membership is:
- Full voting, full participation membership.
- Allowed to bring one (1) guest to one (1) event every membership year.
- Allows the member to vote or run for open elected positions.
- Participation in all Krewe non parade events
- Eligible for all krewe discounted travel, costume purchases, pins and beads
- Eligible for *Member plus one for a minimal annual fee.
Gold Passport Regional Membership:
The Krewe of Europa offers Glold Passport Regional Membership for those not living in Tampa, or local to Tampa that wants to join us on our traveling parades and events in Florida at a reduced dues rate and reduced application fee. This membership is only available to those that are not part time or year round residents of Florida.
Membership includes:
- Participating in all non-Florida parades including our annual European trip
- Participating in one Florida parade with one (1) guest (non transferable)
- Participation in all Krewe non parade events
- Eligible for all krewe discounted travel, costume purchases, pins and beads
- No restrictions on being a member of other krewes
New for 2024 - Silver Passport Membership:
You want to travel to the biggest and best parades across the globe with us, but you want to remain in your current krewe? Our new Silver Passport Membership allows you to remain with your krewe, but be part of ours at the away parades. Starting january 1st, 2024, the Krewe of Europa will no longer allow guest to join us at our travel parades, so this reduced cost membership allows you to be part of our global adventures. As a Passport Member, you will represent the Krewe of Europa This membership is only offered to those within 50 miles of Tampa and you must be in a krewe recognized by the Krewe of Europa. This membership has no voting privaledges and you cannot participate in any parade with Europa within 50 miles of Tampa.
Corporate Sponsor Memberships:
This unique way to get your company involved without individual memberships. The organization purchase one of several different membership levels. This membership has no voting privileges and cannot run for open elected positions. Each level offers various levels of participation from one to six. Membership Process
Application Steps
- The process of membership starts with an invitation from an active member in good standing. This member will sponsor you before the application process. The sponsor will explain the required financial and time commitment needed to be successful in our krewe.
- The second step is completing our membership application and submitting it with a non refundable $100 fee. The application will provide the Board of Directors information on the candidate which will be reviewed at the monthly Board meetings.
- Should the Board approve the application, the candidate will meet with our membership chair for an interview. At this time, the prospective applicant will agree to an national criminal background check.
- Once the background criminal check is complete, the prospective member will be required to attend two krewe socials to meet the other members. After this requirement is met, the krewe will vote on allowing membership.
- If membership is granted by majority vote, the members full dues is needed before being able to participate in any krewe public event including parades. The new krewe member is on probation for the first six months of joining, after that, the member becomes a full member and has voting right established during any krewe business meetings.
FAQs
If my criminal background comes back with incorrect or negative information, am I disqualified to join?
Whereas the Krewe of Europa works with many different organizations including many children's charities, our background check is focused on any threat to the charities we help. If the derogatory information is not seen as a threat to the safety and well being of the krewe, or our partners, then this will be considered in the process. If incorrect information is returned from the background check, the application is put on hold for up to 120 days so that it can be corrected.
How long does the process take?
Our membership process is detailed to ensure both you and the krewe are a good fit. Generally it can take up to six months to become a probationary member.
How much does it cost to join the krewe?
Where we are a traveling krewe, expenses can be large. Additionally, we have an authorized costume seamstress and our attire can be costly. Your sponsor can provide this information on the initial meeting.
How many parades does the krewe do a year?
Our 202 parade schedule is being planned now. Every year, our Board presents parades to membership for a vote on participation. Our parade numbers vary year to year. One thing to remember, we are based in Tampa, but are not a local krewe, but a traveling krewe. Our members are in many states and also in several countries.
